Iranian farmers are the first farmers in the Middle East and perhaps in Asia who are using homeopathic remedies in their herds in order to overcome some of their problems.
It started four years ago, when Mr. Masoud Baradar, a young and well educated Iranian farmer milking 750 Holsteins in Shahriar, near Tehran, dared to try homeopathy in his farm for the first time.
Masoud was concerned about the level of mastitis in his herd, which had increased as a result of higher milk yields. Masoud consulted Nikootec Ltd. who were aware of the use of homeopathic remedies in treatment of mastitis and were previously in contact with Ainsworths via their office in London.
Initially Ainsworth suggested that “Udder Health” be used in the prevention of mastitis on this farm. “Udder Health” is a nosode made by Ainsworth specifically for the control of mastitis in dairy cattle and also for increasing the immunity of the herd.
On one very hot afternoon in the summer of 1998, for the first time in the farming history of Iran, a homeopathic remedy, “Udder Health” was added to the water trough of high yielding dairy cows.
Prior to the start of homeopathic treatment at this farm, the milk cell count of the herd was 250000 cell/ml. Udder Health was administered to the herd for 3 months continuously and this reduced the cell count to 170,000 cell/ml after only 4 weeks of the start date. Since the summer of 1988 incidences of mastitis in the herd has been greatly reduced and culling rate has declined to one tenth of the figure it was prior to use of homeopathic treatment.
Almost a year later, Masoud had the courage to apply his own method of treating sub-clinical mastitis in his herd with “Udder Care”, another Ainsworths remedy. Masoud selected infected cows in groups of 30-40 and applied Udder Care for 3 or 4 days. Using this method, he achieved a very high cure rate for sub-clinical mastitis cases in his herd. This young Iranian farmer has gone further than just using homeopathy for prevention of mastitis. He now uses a range of Ainsworth remedies to cure clinical and chronic cases of mastitis in his herd and only rarely are antibiotics used for treatment of mastitis in his herd. Today Masoud can be regarded as an experienced and knowledgeable farm manager in homeopathic prevention and treatments of mastitis in the dairy industry.

During this initial introductory period of homeopathy in Iran, members of a young group of farmers in Tehran observed the use of homeopathy at Dam-e-Barin farm and some of them became interested in the use of homeopathy in their own farms.
Shandasht Farm – Islamshahr – Tehran
The second farm manager who became seriously interested and wanted to use homeopathic remedies on his farm was Hamid-Reza Hemmat, a British educated Iranian farmer. Hamid-Reza milks 700 Holsteins and his brother, Mohammad-Reza who is the farms production manager was keen to see quick results.
It was suggested that they initially use Ainsworth Udder Care for which Hamid-Reza hand-picked 6 cows with clinical mastitis, among them were 2 chronic cases that had not responded to several antibiotic therapies. All 6 cows responded positively and were successfully treated under Hamid-Reza’s supervision, which also went on to successfully treat 14 calves diagnosed as having pneumonia using Answorth Calf Care remedy.
The Hemmat brothers and all at Shandasht farm have continued to use homeopathy in the prevention and treatment of mastitis and pneumonia and are convinced of the effects of homeopathic therapy in their herd.
